Heading Structure Analyzer

Paste your page’s HTML or a Markdown draft and get its H1–H6 outline, a 0–100 structure score, and a plain-English list of fixes — skipped levels, empty or duplicate headings, missing H1, and walls of text with no subheading. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

🔑 Missing or multiple H1

Every page should have one clear H1 that names the topic. Multiple H1s are flagged as low-severity: Google has said it handles them fine, but a single H1 is easier for people and screen readers.

📏 Skipped levels

Jumping from H2 straight to H4 breaks the outline for screen-reader users who navigate by heading. Go down one level at a time; you can jump back up as far as you like.

🚫 Empty headings

A heading tag with no text (or only an image with no alt text) is announced as a blank landmark. Delete it or give it text.

🔁 Duplicate headings

Two identical headings (such as several “Overview” H2s) make the outline ambiguous. Repeating a heading under different parents is fine; repeating it at the same level is the one flagged.

📄 Walls of text

More than about 300 words under a single heading, or a long page with almost no subheadings, is hard to scan. Add a descriptive subheading every few paragraphs.

🎯 Keyword placement

If you enter a target phrase, the tool checks whether it appears in the H1 and in at least one subheading, and warns if nearly every heading repeats it.

Getting the HTML: on the live page press Ctrl+U (Cmd+Option+U on Mac) to view source and copy it, or right-click → Inspect → right-click the <html> tag → Copy → Copy outerHTML. Note that headings added by JavaScript only appear in the second method. Scores are guidance, not a ranking formula — Google does not publish a heading score.
